Mission Statement The Watsonville Public Library provides a variety of information, materials and services in a welcoming place where people gather, learn, and celebrate our multi-cultural community.
Volunteer Duties Currently going through a volunteer database update so for any immediate questions please call the library. Volunteers are mostly needed for clerical and literacy positions. The library tries to fit university students with positions that will benefit the library but also the individual. Other positions will assist students grades 1 to 12 who drop in for homework help. Students need help in a variety of subjects; volunteer efforts might include listening to kids read, helping them to understand homework directions, and encouraging their efforts. Volunteers aren't expected to be experts! Volunteers are also needed in the computer lab and children's area. A staff member is in the room at all times working with children and supervising; librarians are available for additional help.
Notes

For a volunteer application, it is best to visit the library in person or call the volunteer coordinator to discuss your interests. There is an application on online that you can download and print but it is best to familiarize yourself with the library beforehand. We need volunteers age 16 or over with Spanish, English, basic writing, computer, social studies, science, and math skills. Applicants are asked to make a scheduled commitment of 2 hours or more per weeks for a minimum of three months. If you have any questions please contact the library in person. The Homework Center is currently under a remodeling phase, please call the library branch for more questions. Watsonville Public Library maintains one homework center at the Freedom branch. The center are open 3:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday through Thursday; a homework assistant staffs each center and is backed up by a reference librarian on duty at the library reference desk. Library resources, materials, computer programs, and research databases are provided. Students, K-12, attend daily on a drop-in basis to receive homework tutoring, research help, and computer access. Volunteers make a difference in helping students be successful and capable!
